My ex is bankrupt. The mortgage company come after me for payments?

In: Mortgage Payment

3 Oct 2010

My ex lives in Minnesota, where we bought a house. When we divorced, newspapers awarded him the house and mortgage. We had an agreement in good faith, that refinance to remove my name from the loan. He did not and it got pretty bad for him and he is bankrupt.

My name is still on the privilege, although the document states that it his responsibility to pay or refinance the loan. My concern is trying to be that the mortgage company to collect money from me, although I can not live in the house and not the payments. I live in California, so I’m not sure how (or whether) the impact somewhat.

This mortgage is a contract between you and the lender. Your divorce does not alter this agreement. The mortgage lender can, after you the same extent as if you were still married come.

Expect at least a huge ding your credit.
